Handmade Nation was here!

Last week was a big week for the city’s craft-conscious, because Handmade Nation came to town! I attended the New York premiere of this long-awaited documentary of the indie craft movement at the Museum of Arts and Design on Thursday evening. In addition to the screening, director Faythe Levine and artists Mandy Greer and Kate Bingaman-Burt spoke with Church of Craft leader Callie Janoff. I felt a bit like I was among indie, crafty, feminist royalty all evening, and I went home more than a little keyed up, I must admit.

One special treat that night was getting the chance to talk with Maura Madden, author of Crafternoon. After the stimulating film and panel discussion, the two of us were inspired to start scheming on some potential collaborative projects, and I’m pretty excited about the possibilities. I’ll report more on that later, so please stay tuned!
